How to read the result
- Negative
- Two colored lines appear: one in the control region (C) and one in the test region (T) for that drug. A line in T of any intensity, even a faint one, means negative for that drug.
- Preliminary positive
- Only one colored line appears, in the control region (C). No line appears in the test region (T) for that drug. This means the drug may be present at or above the cutoff level.
- Invalid
- No line appears in the control region (C). Discard the test and repeat with a new device. If it happens again, contact us.
Always follow the package insert for the specific test. Preliminary positive results should be confirmed by a laboratory using GC-MS or LC-MS/MS.
Questions about EtG tests
What is an EtG test?
EtG (ethyl glucuronide) is a breakdown product of alcohol. An EtG urine test shows that someone drank alcohol, and EtG stays in urine longer than alcohol itself. The package insert for each test gives its detection window.
What is the difference between EtG and a breath test?
A breath test measures alcohol in the body right now. An EtG urine test shows drinking that may have happened earlier, after the alcohol itself is gone. Programs that monitor abstinence often use EtG for that reason.
Which EtG cutoff should I choose?
Our EtG tests use 300 ng/mL and 500 ng/mL. A lower cutoff picks up smaller amounts of alcohol, which can include incidental exposure from products such as mouthwash or hand sanitizer. Choose the cutoff your program's policy calls for.
Can I get EtG in a drug test cup?
Yes. 61 of our cups include an EtG strip, from 6 to 28 panels, from $0.89 a cup at 10,000+. If your cup has no EtG strip, add a single EtG strip to the same sample.
Do positive results need to be confirmed?
Yes. A positive result on an instant test is preliminary. Before any legal, employment or clinical action, have the specimen confirmed by a certified laboratory using GC-MS or LC-MS/MS. 12 Panel Now isn't affiliated with a specific laboratory, so customers arrange confirmation testing independently.
