Choose a forensic label
Forensic Use Only tests are labelled for courts, probation and parole, law enforcement and corrections. They often add the drugs supervision programs watch for: fentanyl, alcohol (EtG), kratom, synthetic cannabinoids and xylazine.
Make tampering hard
Check the temperature strip at once, use a cup with adulterant checks (pH, specific gravity and creatinine), and follow your department's rules on observed collection.
Keep the chain of custody
Label the specimen in front of the person, record who handled it and when, and keep non-negative specimens for laboratory confirmation.
Confirm before you act
An instant test is a screen. Before a violation report or any legal action, confirm a non-negative result at a laboratory using GC-MS or LC-MS/MS.

How to read the result
- Negative
- Two colored lines appear: one in the control region (C) and one in the test region (T) for that drug. A line in T of any intensity, even a faint one, means negative for that drug.
- Preliminary positive
- Only one colored line appears, in the control region (C). No line appears in the test region (T) for that drug. This means the drug may be present at or above the cutoff level.
- Invalid
- No line appears in the control region (C). Discard the test and repeat with a new device. If it happens again, contact us.
Always follow the package insert for the specific test. Preliminary positive results should be confirmed by a laboratory using GC-MS or LC-MS/MS.

Questions from probation
How many panels is a probation drug test?
It depends on the department. There is no single standard; many use a multi-panel cup and add fentanyl and alcohol (EtG).
Does probation test for kratom?
Only if the department uses a test with a kratom strip. Standard panels don't include it. 29 of our 71 Forensic Use Only cups include kratom, and we sell 3 single kratom tests.
Does probation test for alcohol?
Only with an alcohol test: an EtG strip or a cup that includes EtG. A standard drug panel doesn't detect alcohol. 61 of our 71 Forensic Use Only cups include alcohol (EtG), and we sell 2 single alcohol (EtG) tests.
Do positive results need to be confirmed?
Yes. A positive result on an instant test is preliminary. Before any legal, employment or clinical action, have the specimen confirmed by a certified laboratory using GC-MS or LC-MS/MS. 12 Panel Now isn't affiliated with a specific laboratory, so customers arrange confirmation testing independently.
