How to choose a drug test cup

  1. Step 1

    The drugs

Pick the panel count that covers the drugs your program needs to see. 65 of our cups add fentanyl and 61 add alcohol (EtG); higher counts add kratom, synthetic cannabinoids and newer drugs.

  2. Step 2

    The label

CLIA waived means the FDA has categorized the test as simple to perform. A site that uses waived tests for clinical purposes still needs a CLIA Certificate of Waiver from CMS and must follow the manufacturer's instructions. Forensic Use Only tests are for forensic drugs-of-abuse testing by courts, probation and parole, law enforcement, corrections and other forensic programs, as described on the label. They are not for clinical diagnosis, treatment decisions or home use.

  3. Step 3

    Size and checks

The 120 mL Click Cup is the standard; 90 mL cups cost less. 42 cups also check the sample for adulterants (pH, specific gravity and creatinine).

Instant (point-of-collection) tests can't be used for DOT-required testing. Under 49 CFR Part 40, DOT tests must be collected on a federal custody and control form and analyzed at an HHS-certified laboratory. Instant cups, dip cards and oral swabs are for non-DOT programs, such as company-policy pre-employment, random, reasonable-suspicion and post-accident testing.

How to read the result

Negative
Two colored lines appear: one in the control region (C) and one in the test region (T) for that drug. A line in T of any intensity, even a faint one, means negative for that drug.
Preliminary positive
Only one colored line appears, in the control region (C). No line appears in the test region (T) for that drug. This means the drug may be present at or above the cutoff level.
Invalid
No line appears in the control region (C). Discard the test and repeat with a new device. If it happens again, contact us.

Always follow the package insert for the specific test. Preliminary positive results should be confirmed by a laboratory using GC-MS or LC-MS/MS.

Buying cups in volume

Every cup has a price ladder: the more you order, the lower the price per cup. Shipping is free from 100 cups. Accounts that reorder get their own price list, and we quote large or recurring orders.

Questions about drug test cups

What is a drug test cup?

A drug test cup collects a urine sample and tests it in the same step. Test strips inside the cup show a result for each drug within minutes, so there is nothing to pipette or dip. Most cups also carry a temperature strip, and some check the sample for adulterants.

How many panels do I need?

Each panel is one drug or drug class. Pick the count that covers the drugs your program needs to see: our customers order 12 panel, 14 panel and 13 panel cups most. Higher counts add drugs such as fentanyl, alcohol (EtG), kratom and synthetic cannabinoids. Each panel page lists every configuration with its drugs and cutoffs.

Which drug test cups test for fentanyl?

65 of our 103 cups include a fentanyl strip, with cutoffs of 1 ng/mL, 10 ng/mL, 20 ng/mL and 200 ng/mL. Standard opiate strips do not detect fentanyl.

Which drug test cups test for alcohol?

61 of our cups include an EtG strip, at 300 ng/mL and 500 ng/mL. EtG is a breakdown product of alcohol that stays in urine longer than alcohol itself.

What is the difference between CLIA waived and Forensic Use Only?

CLIA waived means the FDA has categorized the test as simple to perform. A site that uses waived tests for clinical purposes still needs a CLIA Certificate of Waiver from CMS and must follow the manufacturer's instructions. Forensic Use Only tests are for forensic drugs-of-abuse testing by courts, probation and parole, law enforcement, corrections and other forensic programs, as described on the label. They are not for clinical diagnosis, treatment decisions or home use. We sell 32 CLIA waived and 71 Forensic Use Only cups.

Can drug test cups be used for DOT testing?

No.

Do positive results need to be confirmed?

Yes. A positive result on an instant test is preliminary. Before any legal, employment or clinical action, have the specimen confirmed by a certified laboratory using GC-MS or LC-MS/MS. 12 Panel Now isn't affiliated with a specific laboratory, so customers arrange confirmation testing independently.

Should I buy 120 mL or 90 mL cups?

The 120 mL Serenity Click Cup is the standard size. The 90 mL cups hold a smaller sample and cost less: the lowest 90 mL price is $0.79 a cup at 20,000+, against $0.79 at 20,000+ for 120 mL.

What is the cheapest drug test cup?

Our lowest price is $0.79 a cup at 20,000+, for the 5 Panel Test, CLIA Waived Detecting BZO, COC, THC, METH, MOP & Adulterants. Every cup has a volume price ladder, and shipping is free from 100 cups.
